WHERE WE ADD VALUE

The strategic HR work that shapes where the business goes.

A fractional HRD isn't there to run the day-to-day admin. They sit alongside your leadership, connect people decisions to commercial outcomes, and take the heavy, high-risk work off the board's plate. Here's where that shows up.

People strategy & planning

Workforce, skills and succession planning aligned to your growth plans, so the organisation has the right people in the right roles ahead of the demand, not scrambling after it.

Organisation design & change

Restructures, integrations, culture change and the communications that carry them, designed and run so the change actually sticks rather than quietly reverting once the consultants leave.

Complex ER & risk

High-risk cases, sensitive negotiations, trade-union engagement and tribunal avoidance, handled by someone who has been through them before and knows where the exposure really lies.

Reward & performance

Pay frameworks, bonus schemes and performance or OKR design that reward the right behaviours and keep your best people, without blowing the cost base or creating unfairness that comes back to bite.

Leadership & governance

HR KPIs, board reporting, policy frameworks and compliance oversight, so your leadership has a clear line of sight from people risk to business performance and can answer for it with confidence.

M&A & transformation

People due diligence, TUPE, post-deal integration and retention plans, so a deal doesn't lose the very talent that made it worth doing in the first place.

ENGAGEMENT OPTIONS

Three ways to bring in HRD-level leadership.

You choose the model that fits the need, whether that's ongoing strategic input, short-term cover, or a defined piece of work.

— STEP 01
Fractional HRD
One to six days a month on site, with remote support between visits. Ideal when you need senior HR direction and board presence regularly but not full-time, and want the same trusted person over the long term.
— STEP 02
Interim HRD
Short-term, full-time cover during a period of change or a vacancy at the top of your HR function. We hold the seat, keep momentum and steady the ship until your permanent leader is in place.
— STEP 03
Project-based
A fixed-scope initiative with clear milestones and outcomes, whether that's a restructure, a pay review, a culture programme or an integration. You get a defined deliverable and a defined cost.

THE OUTCOMES

What you actually get for the investment.

A fractional HRD earns their keep by moving the numbers that matter to the board, not by adding another layer of process.

A people plan tied to the metrics

A clear people plan mapped to your commercial goals, so every major HR decision can be traced back to the impact it has on the business.

Confident leaders and capable managers

Leaders who make people decisions with confidence and managers who handle the day-to-day well, because someone senior has coached and equipped them.

Reduced risk, stronger compliance

A materially stronger compliance posture and fewer high-risk situations, because the exposure is spotted and managed before it turns into a claim.

A scalable operating model

An HR operating model and a rhythm of business that scales with you, so the function keeps working as the organisation grows rather than creaking under it.

QUESTIONS

Common questions about a fractional HR Director

What is a fractional HR Director?
A fractional HR Director is a senior HR leader who works with your business part-time, typically one to six days a month, giving you strategic HR direction and board-level presence without the cost of a full-time hire. You get the seniority and the commercial judgement of an HRD, scaled to the days your business actually needs.
How is it different from your on-site HR consultancy?
On-site HR consultancy handles the operational people work: employee relations, policies, recruitment, day-to-day cases. A fractional HRD operates a level up, on strategy, organisation design, reward, governance, complex risk and transformation, sitting alongside your board. Many clients use both: an HRD to set direction and consultants to deliver the day-to-day.
What engagement options are there?
Three. A fractional HRD (one to six days a month with board attendance and remote support between visits) for ongoing strategic input; an interim HRD (short-term full-time cover) during change or a vacancy; and project-based engagements with a fixed scope, clear milestones and defined outcomes for a specific piece of work.
Do you work on site or remotely?
Both. We partner on site with your board and senior team across the UK, with virtual support between visits. We work standard business hours, with out-of-hours availability by arrangement when a live situation calls for it.
How is it priced?
By day rate or retainer, depending on the engagement, with travel and time agreed in advance so the cost is clear before we start. A retainer usually suits ongoing fractional work, while project engagements are scoped and priced as a defined piece. We quote each engagement up front — tell us the brief and we'll come back with a clear, scoped figure.
Can a fractional HRD attend our board meetings?
Yes. Board attendance and senior team presence are core to the role. A fractional HRD brings HR KPIs and people risk into the room where decisions get made, reports at board level, and gives your leadership a credible, commercial voice on people matters.
How quickly can you start?
Usually quickly. Because the model is designed to flex, we can often begin with a discovery session to assess your priorities within a short window, then design a tailored HRD plan around the days and outcomes you need. Book a consultation and we'll scope it with you.
